The Day Designer- Here’s the planner I use every single day. Not cheap but it’s worth it!

If you're hoping to read about how I time-block my day into 30-minute increments and kick off each morning with a detox tea, sorry to disappoint ya! As a busy, working mom with a growing business, a team of designers, and a self-produced podcast, my detox tea looks more like a shot of espresso and my time-blocking is heavily dependent on my daughter's nap schedule.

In this episode of The BrandWell Podcast, you'll find less "do-this-every-day-and-you'll-be-successful" and more of a"whatever-works-for-you" mentality. I am all about grace and the freedom to be flexible in the difficult season of working from home with young children.

Now let’s dive in with my daily routine as a work-from-home mom and my best tips to stay organized and get stuff done!

Start With a Brain Dump

Every morning, I try to wake up about an hour before my 9-month-old daughter and take a few minutes to jot down everything that I know needs to get done. If I don't write it down, I will forget (who’s with me??).

The beauty of writing things down first thing in the morning is that it allows you to clear your head and make room to be present with the task at hand.

Whether that’s playing with your kiddos, hosting a staff meeting, or trying to fit in an early morning workout- knowing you’ve written everything down can help you relax until you get the chance to tackle your to-do list.

Create Margin for Yourself

It’s so important for me to have those few extra minutes alone before my daughter wakes up (usually from 6-7AM) to spend time reading my bible, making the bed, getting dressed, and preparing for the day ahead.

The power of a made bed before 7AM… do NOT underestimate it!

Take Advantage of Nap Time (if that’s still a thing for you)

When my daughter goes down for a nap (she currently takes two 1-2 hour naps per day), it’s go-time for me. This is when I open up my laptop, I look at the list of items that I wrote down that morning, and I segment those items based on three things:

1) What's urgent? 2) What's important? 3) What can I outsource or put off to another day?

Now hear me out- a lot of things are going to feel urgent, but they're not.

Here are some of my own examples:

Urgent

- Client calls
- Podcast Interviews with guests
- Delivering projects to clients on time

Important

- Reviewing designs from designers
- Schedule out social media posts
- Follow up with inquiries & DM

To-Do or to Outsource

- Order groceries
- Review podcast applications
- Review social media posts

Do Your Least Favorite Task First

My former boss gave me a piece of advice that has stuck with as I’ve started my own business. He always encouraged my co-workers and I to do the things that we least want to do first.

When you eliminate the things that you’re dreading first, the rest of your day is full of more enjoyable tasks and you’ll be way more likely to power through your list. Try it out!

Outsource What You Can

Outsourcing may sound like a luxury but the truth is, every opportunity we face comes with a cost. When you choose to run your own business and work 60+ hours per week, you’re choosing not to spend all of that time cooking decadent meals and making sure every nook and cranny of your home is spotless.

When you choose to stay home with your babies, you’re choosing to not pay for child-care but you’re also choosing to miss out on precious, quiet working hours.

Somethings gotta give.

With the money I save not investing in full-time child watch, I am able to pour back into outsourcing certain tasks in my business that are difficult for me to do myself when home with a baby. To hear what projects and tasks I outsource, tune into my latest podcast episode!
